Indicators for a globally responsible Wales
Wellbeing goals
One of the seven wellbeing goals in Wales is to be ‘a globally responsible Wales’. This means “a nation which, when doing anything to improve the economic, social, environmental and cultural well-being of Wales, takes account of whether doing such a thing may make a positive contribution to global well-being” [1]. This includes:
Ensuring that supply chains are fair, ethical and sustainable
Supporting sustainable behaviour
Ensuring that Wales is welcoming, safe and fair to all
Efficient use of resources
Making the right financial decisions now, to enable future generations to thrive
Wales National Indicators on being globally responsible
To measure progress towards these goals, the Wales National Indicators include measures related to the following impacts:
-
Levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) pollution in the air
Capacity (in megawatt) of renewable energy equipment installed
Concentration of carbon and organic matter in soil
The global footprint of Wales
Amount of waste generated that is not recycled, per person
Percentage of dwellings with adequate energy performance
Emissions of greenhouse gases within Wales
Emissions of greenhouse gases attributed to the consumption of global goods and services in Wales
Areas of healthy ecosystems in Wales

Percentage of surface water bodies, and groundwater bodies, achieving good or high overall status
-
Percentage of people agreeing:
that they belong to the area
that people from different backgrounds get on well together
