Welcome to Module 8: Strengthening capacity and accountability for progress

Embedding wellbeing economy approaches within government is no mean feat. It goes beyond setting new goals (Module 5) and measuring wellbeing (Module 6). It requires new ways of working both within government as well as with other stakeholders in society (Module 7). This change process within government needs to be supported by capacity building, to support policymakers on this learning journey, as well as clear accountability mechanisms.

This module:

  • Provides practical examples of what capacity building programmes might look like

  • Offers examples and guiding questions to help distinguish between genuine wellbeing economy approaches and wellbeing economy 'window dressing'

  • Describes the wellbeing economy journey of Wales and how the Welsh government has strengthened accountability for wellbeing, now and for future generations
